Surrendering a Director Identification Number (DIN) is a formal process undertaken when a director no longer wishes to hold the DIN or if it was obtained by mistake. To initiate the surrender, the director must fill out Form DIR-5, available on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) portal.
The form requires details such as the DIN to be surrendered, reasons for surrendering, and the director’s personal information. Supporting documents, including a self-attested copy of the PAN card and proof of identity, must be attached. The form must be digitally signed using the director’s Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
Once the form is completed and submitted, the MCA reviews the application. If the request is found to be in order, the DIN is deactivated and removed from the MCA database. This process ensures that the director is no longer associated with the DIN, maintaining accurate records and regulatory compliance. Properly surrendering the DIN helps prevent misuse and keeps corporate governance streamlined.
